Hand printed books

by Otto

Otto is a Graphic Artist interested in communicating with marks on a flat surface. He practices as Illustrator, Screen Printer and Book Artist. Otto's image making derives from screen-printing. His influences are Russian Constructivist designs, Polish poster art and Renaissance painting.

Otto has worked as a Freelance Illustrator since graduating in 1991 from Bristol Polytechnic in Graphic Design. He has been mainly illustrating for international newspapers and magazines. After graduating from an MA in Illustration at Kingston University he began creating and publishing screen-printed books. Ceramics

by Lee Page Hanson

Lee works predominantly in white clay bodies, Porcelain & Earthenware, which he manipulate and shape using plaster press moulds to produce textures and accentuate with oxide. His work involves experimenting with geometric shapes and some figurative images. He uses coloured slips, paper resist, under-glaze pencil, lace & wallpaper embossing and on glaze lustre decoration. When combined these techniques are a form of ceramic collage. www.leepagehanson.com/

'Paper Tales' Biodegradable Jewellery

by Crumple

Opening times: Tue-Fri 12-5pm; Sat & Sun 11am -4pm;
Closed Monday

On March 6th, to coincide with Fair Trade Fortnight and in support of the UN Decade of Bio-diversity, Crumple launched their summer collection of eco jewellery. Mimicking the simplicity and finesse of origami, each pair is carefully hand crafted in the UK out of beautiful eco materials including non-toxic, non-solvent acid free glues and responsibly sourced paper and card. The hooks are sterling silver so nearly everyone can wear the earrings. Once the earrings have been loved the wearer is given the option to recycle or compost them. If recycling facilities aren't available everything can be posted back to Crumple.

The collection has been inspired by the spectacular 1960s disposable paper dress sensation and the temporal beauty of land-art. Crumple design duo, eco fashion consultant Elizabeth Laskar and artist Jezella Pigott combine fashion and art to produce earrings that are eye catching, carry a positive story and designed to have minimal impact on the environment. Crumple's first collection is called 'Paper Tales' as each style tells a story about our environment.

There are currently nine designs in the collection which highlight an array of environmental challenges. From Polar Bears, water conservation, to nurturing environments for bees to visit gardens and meadows, the Paper Tales collection celebrates stories about our diverse environment and invites the wearer to get creative in helping to make a difference. For each pair of earrings sold, Crumple put 20pence into a fund for conservation projects around the world. The 'Sun Spot" earrings, inspired by the Egyptian sun god Aten, celebrates solar energy - funds raised from this style go directly to the Barefoot College Solar Engineers project, initiated and run by the celebrated social entrepreneur Bunker Roy.

Leather Cuffs

By Embellished Truth

Embellished Truth is an accessories label which focuses on environmental sensibilities. Each handbag and leather cuff is made using the finest eco-friendly leather which has been vegetable tanned in Europe. The tanning process is free from chrome and other heavy metals and uses vegetable substances which are harvested in a sustainable way. The end result is beautifully soft, breathable and biodegradable leather.

Inspired by Indian culture, prints and embellishments, each piece is individually created with care in London and embossed by hand with an original paisley design. The natural characteristics of the leather ensure that time and use will create a unique appearance to each bag or cuff, adding to its natural beauty .

Lavender Bags

by Armadillo Creations

Armadillo Creations is the culmination of my passion for sustainable, eco-friendly design and a ‘make do and mend’ ethos. Affordable Art

by Ruth Allen

Ruth produces work that has been based around the theme of both interiors and architecture. The main inspiration for the ways in which she develops her techniques, processes and use of colour come from the 1950’s, with a focus on the work of both Lucienne and Robin Day and the 1950’s home and interior. When focusing on Ruth’s interior pieces she draws inspiration from both the modern and 1950’s interior, therefore the objects as well as her use of style and technique reflect this particular time.

Simone

Jewellery

Simone scours second hand shops, car-boot sales, people's button tins, old clothes and antique shops to find interesting and beautiful vintage buttons and makes either earrings, rings or brooches. Along with the buttons, Simone also incorporates either vintage or floral fabric (often Liberty print) into her range.

One of the most intriguing pieces in the Simone collection is the mixed button earrings where one vintage button is matched with different button to make an unusual and unique pair of earrings.

Lately, Simone has focussed on using more worn and scratched buttons that suggest a sense of history. "I love taking something old and discarded and turning it into something beautiful and treasured." Simone.
